Alex grew up in Los Angeles, California but left her native West Coast home to study at George Washington University in Washington DC. There she studied Asian Studies at the Elliot School of International Affairs.

During her time in school she studied abroad in both India and China. In 1998, her study in India provided her with the opportunity to complete and Arts & Cultures seminar in the state of Rajasthan, during which she completed a research study on miniature painting. In 2000, Alex participated in an intensive language immersion program through the John's Hopkins University and Nanjing University in Nanjing, China.

Upon completion of her studies she became thoroughly interested in the Indian culture and returned to India for a brief trip which inspired her to enroll in the Ayurvedic Studies program at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ayurveda is the Indian system of medicine and healing through diet, herbal medicine and lifestyle. While there Alex also completed the beginning AyurYoga teacher training. While in study she came in contact with different styles of practitioners: Ayuvedic Practitioners, massage therapists, herbalists, and most importantly; Acupuncturists.

After completion of the program Alex enrolled in the Masters of Science Program for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She started out in New Mexico at Southwest Acupuncture College, but soon transferred to Samra University in Los Angeles to be close to family, and get a chance to study with her mother, Dr. Margarete Rose, whom was a pathologist in Los Angeles.

In Los Angeles she was fortunate to have to opportunity to study with Dr. Qi Wei Zheng and his wife Dr. Chun Yi Qian. In March of 2006 she was part of a group of students and acupuncturists organized by Dr. Zheng and the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center. They were given the opportunity to work in four different hospitals in Beijing. It was there she was able to learn more advanced techniques of acupuncture, cupping, and moxabustion, as well as treatment with Chinese herbs.

She has been the owner and acupuncturist at Four Winds Acupuncture since September of 2006 and currently resides and practices in downtown Sioux Falls.
